Chifa Chung Yion—also known as Chifa Unión de Barranco—is a family-run business that began its journey in 1923 and is celebrating 103 years of history this year. Since opening, it has remained in the same location in Barranco, housed in a traditional mansion that is integral to both its history and the visitor experience. Its legacy is rooted in the work of Don Juan Tong Wu Lao Loi and has been carried forward by his nine children, who represent the family's second generation. Today, a third generation—comprising his grandchildren—works alongside their parents, helping to keep this family legacy alive. Quality, generous portions, and reasonable prices are the principles that define the restaurant's identity and have ensured its longevity for over a century. The kitchen preserves traditional preparation techniques and knowledge passed down through generations, maintaining the signature flavors of its dishes. This is complemented by the family's dedication: the siblings remain actively involved, visiting the restaurant, welcoming customers, and upholding the warm, personal service for which the establishment is known. Chung Yion is a gathering place where generations of customers have shared meals together. Its historic building, cuisine, and family heritage make it an integral part of Barranco’s cultural and gastronomic identity.
